A Creative Space Built by Kids, for Kids

Kids Korner at The Root 66 Garden is an ongoing, kid-led art and garden installation project where creativity takes center stage.

Designed and led by Adie, as her high school senior community service project, Kids Korner is a dedicated space of about 3600 square feet within our 14+ acre Community Garden where kids can imagine, design, and build their own creative environment alongside nature.

🎨 A Living Art Garden

Kids Korner is not just a garden space, it is an evolving outdoor art installation.

While rooted within our established community garden, this area is intentionally designed for creative expression first, with gardening woven into the experience. Every project adds color, personality, and meaning, making the space feel alive and uniquely shaped by the kids who contribute to it.

🌱 Connected to Our 14+ Community Garden

Kids Korner exists within the larger 14+ Community Garden, giving younger participants a chance to:

  • Learn from older gardeners
  • Be inspired by established garden plots
  • Contribute their own creative space within the larger garden ecosystem

This connection creates a natural bridge between generations, where creativity and gardening grow side by side.

🖌️ Featured Creative Projects

Art is at the heart of Kids Korner. Ongoing projects include:

  • Large-scale murals designed and painted by kids
  • Rock painting installations throughout the garden
  • Handcrafted and painted garden signage
  • Personalized stepping stones placed throughout pathways
  • Pinecone bird feeders and nature-based crafts
  • Owl boxes and bird houses
  • Seasonal and rotating art displays

Hands-on building and garden elements will also support the creative vision:

  • Mud kitchen for imaginative outdoor play
  • Pallet-built fencing, structures, and creative installations
  • Artist-designed raised planter beds for flowers, herbs, and fun plantings

🛠️ Designed and Led by Kids

Kids Korner is guided by Adie, but shaped by the ideas and creativity of the kids who participate.

Children are encouraged to:

  • Share ideas and designs
  • Work together on projects
  • Experiment with materials and techniques
  • Leave their personal mark on the space

This is a place where creativity is valued over perfection.

📅 Weekly Creative Meetups

Saturdays
9:00 AM to 10:00 AM

This is an ongoing project expected to take up to 12 months to build out, with continued opportunities for new art and installations long after the initial phase is complete.

Kids can join at any time.

🌼 A Space That Keeps Growing

Kids Korner will continue to evolve beyond its initial build.

Field trips, visiting families, and young artists will be invited to contribute art projects, ensuring the space is always changing, always growing, and always filled with new creativity. We currently have 50 plus kids visiting weekly, and this program will have a meaningful impact on many local residents and their families, strengthening community connection, creativity, and shared stewardship of the garden space.

👨‍👩‍👧 How to Participate

Kids can volunteer to be part of Kids Korner with parent or guardian involvement.

To join:

  • Register on the Volunteer Opportunities page with a parent or guardian
  • Complete participation forms
  • Attend Saturday sessions as available

No experience is needed, just creativity, curiosity, and a willingness to get a little messy.

💚 Why Kids Korner Matters

Kids Korner gives children a place where their ideas matter and their creativity becomes part of something bigger.

They are not just making art, they are shaping a space that other kids will explore, enjoy, and build on for years to come.

✨ Join the Creativity

Come be part of a space where art, nature, and imagination come together.
